Primary Years

List some of the cameleers important roles and achievements in Australia before 1870.

Look closely at the camels’ nose pegs.  Make a drawing to describe how a string of camels was linked together.

Look at ‘Branding and Licensing’. Talk about some other ways of identifying camels in the ‘outback’ today.

Use the slideshow to find out how Afghan pack saddles were made and used on camels.

Try making your own model of pack saddle. List some of the things the cameleers carried on their camels.

Other trades

Form a small group. Each member of your group can choose one of the other trades or jobs the cameleers did.

Take it in turns to report back on what these other jobs were like.
