Biography

(d. 3 Mar. 1959, Broken Hill, N.S.W., aged 71). Hawker in west Queensland. 'The last wandering Afghan'. Became truck driver, late 1940s (Farwell 1950, p. 25; Schinasi 1980; Stevens 1989, p. 284). Probably the same SAID ALI recorded at Bourke, May 1917, in letter from FEROSE KHAN to ABDUL BASIR (Abdul Basir papers). In 1927 owned 26 camels at Lyndhurst, S.A. (S.A. Dept of Lands docket, 1927/840).
