Biography

(d. 1905, Broken Hill, N.S.W.), Sulaiman Khel Afghan. Cameleer, ABDUL WADE's jemadar. Employed by FAIZ and TAJ MUHAMMAD, attempted to join N.S.W. Carriers Union in 1890 (West Australian, 25 Nov., p.3); later owner of a carrier company at Bourke, N.S.W., 1892; went to W.A. and carted goods from Coolgardie to Lake Darlot. Wrote a letter of complaint to the Colonial Secretary that taking passport photos was against his countrymen's religious beliefs, 1899 (Schinasi 1980 p. 22; Rajkowski 1987, pp. 92, 109; Loois 1988; his photo: Stevens 1989, p. 156).
