Biography

Punjabi. Served with British army during second Afghan War. Cameleer at Bourke. Operated string of 50 camels for ABDUL WADE and developed carrying business in Bourke from land earlier leased by GUNNY KHAN. Acted as mullah for the Bourke cameleers, used room in his house as a mosque. Became a hawker with a camel-drawn wagon, then a motor van during 1920s. Died at Bourke aged 107 years (Stevens 1989).
