Strzelecki Expedition, 1916
When a three-year drought broke during 1916, the South Australian Museum mounted a collecting expedition through the state’s north- eastern deserts. Led by museum director Edgar Waite, the expedition added significantly to the museum’s collections of birds, insects, reptiles, mammals and fish. The camel owner and former Horn Expedition cameleer Moosha Balooch contracted his employee, Mahomet Salaam, to lead the expedition’s string of nine bull camels.
